I have just championed a young Latino boy who needed the final $2,000 to make his way to Princeton for a one month summer program. I also helped another young man find his way to Vegas for a Wrestling Program, and I’m donating time and money to a scholarship fund and to a boxing club right now. I also donated books and a laptop to a youth raffle in Elgin and I’m in the process of setting up a faith based organization that will allow young middle school children to attend a quality Christian High School and be allowed the opportunity to get a better education that they could otherwise not have afforded. Additionally, I’m setting up a not-for-profit organization to bring more opportunities to our children on a grander scale. Bottom line is-- our kids need champions.

Writing From the Barrio to the Board Room has been a long journey, but now my real work begins. I am here to make a difference and I am going to do it one child at a time. And I need your help.

I want to make sure you understand what's ahead of us. Our youth are facing tremendous struggles and difficult odds. School shootings and gang violence are affecting all of us. But this is our moment. This is our time. Our time to take a new path for the children we love in this country we love. Everyone deserves a fair shot at chasing the American Dream!

I am prepared for this challenge. I am prepared to make a difference. Together we can change the world!

“This is a story of triumph over our worst demons, over our own failings and, above all, over what life hands us. In a way that only a great book can describe, Robert Renteria tells us he was not going to accept what was handed to him, not now, not ever. By making good on his dreams and then sharing his success with us, Barrio is ultimately the story of a Latino kid from the ghetto giving back to his community for generations to come. Inspirational, thoughtful, and very real, this book is what makes all people everywhere admire the tenacity of the human spirit.”
